The Town Team has evolved into the Clonmel BID, (Clonmel Business Improvement District) . This initiative, after a year long process, has been voted on with the results due to be published in the next couple of weeks. It is envisioned that a Clonmel BID would provide an opportunity for joined up thinking in addressing the challenges our town faces. The collective voice of the Clonmel BID area is louder than several small voices. By bringing businesses within the Clonmel BID area together we can represent the needs of the town to the Government nationally and locally along with other key strategic partners.
This would provide funding for the functions of Town Centre Management e.g. Christmas lights, festivals and events, trade shows, marketing and promotion, safety on our streets, tourism promotion, raising public awareness of what’s happening in Clonmel each week, support for projects that will enhance the town, including those taken on by Clonmel Tidy Town;, source and leverage other funding streams such as Leader, Failte Ireland, Heritage Council of Ireland and Local Authority grants.
We have already had meetings with the Chairperson of the group regarding ways in which we can collaborate and have contributed to the Action Plan drawn up for the town. It was noted in last year's adjudication the amount of dereliction in Clonmel. Dealing with vacant properties is now one of the Clonmel Town Team’s key objectives. The amount of scaffolding in town is testament that rejuvenation is underway. The biggest change has been on the Quay with the partial demolition of the Clonmel Arms hotel. The establishment of the Clonmel Town Team is a very positive development for the town and we look forward to working with them.
